Let’s go Fishing!Annual Event Scheduled to Honor Our Service Men and Women
June 27, 2008
AUGUSTA (GA) – The Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) will host the 2nd annual Take Our Troops Fishing event in Columbia County in partnership with the Columbia County CVB and the Community Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. The event, scheduled for October 25-26, 2008, will take place on Clarks Hill Lake at Wildwood Park in Appling, Georgia.
This fishing tournament was created to honor the men and women serving in the U.S. military, especially those at Fort Gordon. “Being a part of this special event is a gratifying experience,” said Shannan Tilson, an organizer of the event. “It is our small way of honoring those proudly serving our country, saying ‘thank you’ for sacrifices they make. The response from the community and the officials at Fort Gordon has been overwhelming!”
Event organizers hope the tournament will grow larger each year. “We are optimistic that the community will show the same level of enthusiasm and support as they have in the past,” said Thom Tuckey, Executive Director of the CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon. “Our relationship with this community is vital in showing our soldiers how important they are.”
Take Our Troops Fishing is open to all active duty military personnel. The community is encouraged to participate as volunteers, boaters or though product and financial donations. For more information, visit www.thefreedomtofish.com, call 770-634-9941 or e-mail stilson@thefreedomtofish.com.
The CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon was founded in 2003 by business and community leaders. The primary purpose of the Alliance is to demonstrate the potential for Fort Gordon to grow existing missions and take on new missions. Additionally, the Alliance promotes economic development through partnerships capitalizing on the information technology, communications and medical expertise prominent at Fort Gordon.
